Petroleum Refining – Atmospheric Relief Valve Mitigation Project
Scope: New piping and flare system to tie process relief valve discharges into a managed closed system.
Schedule: Construction 2012 – 2018
Highlights: Civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, vessel modifications, vessel setting, two new flares, multiple tie-ins, multiple critical lifts. 105 Relief valves in 33 services tied into header and flare system. Work in multiple turnarounds.
Mitigations/Successes: Earned Value methodology was used to measure productivity, predict cost and validate schedule. Continuous construction contracting strategy re-evaluation and aggressive change management kept construction on schedule despite unforeseen conditions and engineering issues.
