The project
A new process unit to filter fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst out of oil slurry.
What we did
Civil, mechanical, structural and electrical work, vessel setting, complex rigging and tie-ins to existing systems. A major engineering error hit the budget through significant piping rework.
How we handled it
Executrek ran constructability and scope development for the change, built a flash-trend system to capture several rework estimates at once, used labor estimating and productivity analysis to staff and schedule the work to the deadline, and renegotiated the construction contract to reduce the cost of the engineering error.
